Tom Kay is the driving force behind Forest & Bird's efforts to protect our rivers. As the leader of the Making Room for Rivers/Tukua Ngā Awa Kia Rere campaign, Tom is advocating for giving rivers the space they need to flood more naturally. This approach not only preserves rivers' natural beauty and habitats but also safeguards nearby communities and infrastructure. After Cyclone Gabrielle, Tom has been traveling across Aotearoa, spreading the word about this kaupapa.

Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Master of Science in Ecology from Massey University in Palmerston North.
