Councillor, Christchurch City Council

Sara was first elected to the Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board in 2013 and chaired the board until she was elected to Council in 2016. Now a third-term city councillor, she holds the Climate Change Portfolio and chairs the Coastal Hazards Working Group, overseeing council’s coastal adaptation process.  

Back in 2021, Sara was the subject of targeted harassment on social media and hit headlines in 2022 after using the Harmful Digital Communications Act to find out who was behind the fake accounts. Her mahi in this space has continued and she is a strong advocate for legislative change to reduce online harm, and for raising awareness of the approaches we can all take to reduce online harm while still engaging with our communities.
