Karen (Kaz) Yung was born in Te Awakairangi ki Tai, Lower Hutt to Chinese parents. She is currently serving her third term on the Poari Hapori o Pito One - Petone Community Board and currently sits on both the Young Elected Members Committee and Community Board Executive Committee.
Kaz is super passionate about social and environmental issues. She has a background in youth and community development and governance in the not-for-profit sector. More recently she has been involved in the food resilience space, including running a fruit & vege co-op and volunteering at the local school Brekkie Club as well as a Koha Cafe. She currently sits on Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Public Transport Advisory Group as an avid PT user, a constructive ‘criticiser’ and keen strategist. She is also part of the team leading work and kōrero on climate action through Te Ara Whakamua, Climate Pathways in Hutt City and believes we all have a role in being good kaitiaki to ensure a healthy, thriving present as well as a sustainable and resilient future.
Kaz loves it when people, systems, structures, and values coalesce for the better and is always up for her role in weaving such things together.
